Intro to Kayaking
Looking for a fun, hands-on way to learn the ropes of kayaking? This beginner-friendly course is the perfect place to start your paddling journey! Whether you're flying solo in a single kayak or teaming up in a double, you'll get a solid introduction to the skills and knowledge needed to paddle safely and confidently on calm inland waters.
This course is designed to get you paddling — and loving it — in just 4 hours! You’ll learn by doing, with most of the time spent out on the water. It’s relaxed, practical, and no previous experience or fitness level is required.
And if you’re keen to earn your Paddle Australia “Basic Skills” certification, you’ll have the option to complete a few extra skills during the session.

Duration: 4 hours of fun and learning
Pre-requisites: None at all – just bring your enthusiasm!
Equipment: Bring your own gear, or we’ll happily provide it for you
Optional Assessment: Certification available during the course (see below)

Paddling Posture 101
Good posture = better paddling and less soreness. We'll show you how to sit right and paddle smart.
Master the Basics
Hands-on practice with key paddle strokes:
Forward & reverse paddling
Forward & reverse sweep
Emergency stopping
Group Safety – Raft Up!
Learn how to form and break apart a raft — an essential skill for group paddling safety.
Optional Skills for Certification
Self-Rescue Drill
Feeling confident? Try the capsize-and-re-mount challenge — great to know, even better to master!
Swim Test
Take a short swim (25m) in your paddling gear to demonstrate safety and water confidence.
Note: These last two are optional unless you're going for the "Basic Skills" certificate. No pressure!
